One day, when we were in Birmingham, we took the train to Stratford upon Avon, the place where Shakespeare was born and lived. It was very touristic but we still liked it. We visited Shakespeare birthhouse, and the houses of his daughter and granddaughter. The house were he lived, near his grandaughter was demolished, and is now a part of the garden of his granddaughter's house. I love these very old houses, with beautiful windows and doors.
Een van de dagen dat we in Birmingham waren, zijn we met de trein naar Stratford upon Avon geweest, de geboorte- en woonplaats van Shakespeare. Het was erg touristisch, maar we hebben er toch van genoten.
We hebben de huizen bezocht waar Shakespeare is geboren en waar zijn dochter en zijn kleindochter hebben gewoond. Het huis waar hij heeft gewoond is afgebroken en nu een gedeelte van de tuin bij het huis van zijn kleindochter. Ik vind deze oude huizen prachtig, vooral de raam- en deurpartijen.

I was very busy last days. We are looking for a new house and that costs
lots of time.
Good friends came over to spend a day or some hours with me and children en grandchildren came over too. At te end of the days I was very tired, and didn't want to do anymore. So I didn't fill my blog either.
I would tell you something about the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham.
It was a very large show, with 1500 quilts in display and more than 200 shops.Both traditional, contemporary and modern art quilts were in show. I took a lot of photo's but on behalf of copywright I cann't publish them on the web. I show you some photo's of my own little quilt that was in the exhibition of the suitcase quilts. I will explain you how it works.
The European Quilt Association (EQA) has 17 members. (countries)
Each IR (International Representative of each country) brings with her 17 quilts of her own country. These little quilts are divided in 17 suitcases and each IR takes a suitcase with her with 17 quilts from different countries. The suitcases travel in the different countries for a year and next year the IR's change suitcases, and the quilts travel for another year in another country. So lots of people will see your quilt.
The theme of this year was warm and cold.
My quilt is made in warm and cool colours, with flowers in warm colours and icy flowers in silvery white. There were about 300 suitcase quilts in the show.

Ik had het druk de laatste week. We zijn druk op zoek naar een ander huis, een paar vriendinnen kwamen op bezoek, de kinderen en kleinkinderen kwamen langs, dus s'avonds was ik te moe om nog in mijn blog te schrijven.
Nu even iets over het Festival of Quilts in Birmingham. Het was een hele grote show, waar ongeveer 1500 quilts weren tentoongesteld. Ik kan geen foto's laten zien i.v.m. copywright.
Ook waren daar ongeveer 300 kofferquiltjes uit 17 verschillende landen waaronder ook die van mij. Ik zal uitleggen hoe het werkt.
Het thema was warm en koud. De European Quilt Association, kortweg de EQA het 17 leden (landen) Ieder land heeft een afgevaardigde, de International Representative (IR). De IR neemt 17 quilts uit haar land mee. In Birmingham komen alle IR's bij elkaar voor een vergadering en verdelen daar ook de meegebrachte quilts over 17 koffers. De koffers met 17 quilts uit 17 landen gaan met de IR's terug naar hun land en gaan daar een jaar reizen langs verschillende quiltbijeenkomsten. Het volgend jaar wisselen de IR's tijdens hun vergadering de koffers en gaan de quilts weer reizen in een ander land. As er een nieuw thema wordt uitgeschreven, gaan de quilts weer naar hun eigenaar terug, meestal met een soort reisboekje en de belevenissen.
Mijn quilt bestaat uit een ondergrond in koel turquoise, warme kleuren zomerbloemen en ijskristallen of ijsbloemen. Het heet Ijzige zomerbloeiers.
De volgende keer weer iets meer over ons reisje.

Last week I went with my eldest daughter Jacqueline to Birmingham to have a vieuw on the quiltexhibition "Festival of Quilts", a very large exhibition with 1500 quilts in show. The first day we went to the inner city of Birmingham. It was a surprise to find that the inner city was a modern one with high modern buldings and a very large shopping centre. Here and there you saw an old building like the church St. Martin in the Bull Ring.
We also went to the old quarter The Canal, were the industrial buildings were renovated and were transformed in a location were people can enjoy a good meal, have a nice walk along the Canal and lot of apartments.

We had our home in a nice Bread en Breakfast called The White House in Marton Green, in a suburb of Birmingham near to the airport en the Nec, where the sow was.

Vorige week zijn Jacqueline, mijn oudste dochter en ik een paar dagen naar Birmingham geweest om de tentoonstelling Festival of Quilts te bekijken, waar ongeveer 1500 quilts hingen. De eerste dag gingen we naar de binnenstad van Birmingham. Een verrasssing. Birmingham heeft een heel modern centrum met veel torenflats, heel veel winkelmogelijkheden, waarvan ook veel overdekt, en een groot contrast tussen de modere bouw en enkele oude gebouwen, zoals de kerk Sint Martin in the Bull Ring.
We hebben ook het oude industriegebied bezocht, dat helemaal gerestaureerd is en nu een plek is waar veel restaurants en diverse uitgaansmogelijkheden zijn, naast de vele apartementen. Ik heb heel wat foto's gemaakt waar je er hier enkele van ziet.
We logeerden in The White House in Marston Green, een voorstadje van Birmingham, vlakbij het vliegveld en de NEC, waar de tentoonstelling was.
Morgen vertel ik iets meer over de tentoonstelling.

Today the weather was fine. I made some shiboriexamples to make with my Bee on Wednesday this week. I am very curious about the results. I also made some a week or what ago.
Our house has been sold this week, so I have to take a lot of pictures from my garden for inspiration in the future.
Some people asked me to write my blog in Dutch also. I will do this below.

Enkele mensen hebben mij gevraagd om mijn blog ook in het Nederlands te schrijven. Hierbij dus. Vandaag was het weer heel aangenaam. Regelmatig zon. Nadat de laatste logerende kleinkinderen waren vertrokken, heb ik de middag doorgebracht met het maken van shiboriproeven. Ze zijn nu in de Porcion lekker aan het kleuren. Ben benieuwd naar de resultaten morgen.
Ons huis is afgelopen week verkocht. Ik moet dus een heleboel foto's gaan maken voor de broodnodige inspiratie.
